MasterCard Foundation The MasterCard Foundation advances youth learning and promotes financial inclusion to catalyze prosperity in developing countries.
Sub-Saharan Africa is the region with the highest rates of poverty worldwide, and where the need is as great as the potential for financial inclusion to transform lives. Over the past decade, there has been visible progress toward political stability, strong governance, and steady economic growth in several countries. Most of the working poor are engaged in agricultural and rural livelihoods. The low population densities and limited infrastructure in the region have created high operating costs for microfinance institutions. There is significant opportunity to expand access to financial services in Sub-Saharan Africa through innovative and cost-effective solutions.
